The History of the Department

The Department of Highways and Airfields was established on November 24, 1999. Many major road construction companies of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) were involved in the establishment of the Department, including the Road Service Agency, Department for Highway Operations, Directorate for Highway Construction and others.

Since its creation the Department has been headed by Larisa G. Ivanova, Ph.D. (Geological and Mineralogical Sciences), Associate Professor. She is a specialist in the field of permafrost engineering.

The Department of Highways and Airfields trains specialists in highway, city road, rural road, industrial road and transportation infrastructure survey, design, construction and operation.

Our courses

08.03.01 Construction;

08.05.02 Construction, operation, repair and maintenance of highways, bridges and tunnels.

Laboratories of the Department

Soil and Ground Mechanics Laboratory was established to determine the physical and mechanical properties of soils, and to identify the bearing capacity and deformability of roads, buildings and construction sites.

Pavement Quality Control Laboratory is for students who work with instruments used in acceptance tests and operational quality control during road construction.

Geodesy Laboratory includes instruments and equipment for geodetic surveying of roads and bridges, such as electronic tachometers, levels, theodolites, navigation equipment and others.

CAD Laboratory is intended for the mastering of the methods and techniques of computer-aided design of major roads: constructing digital surface models, horizontal alignment, longitudinal profiles and cross sections, subgrade, pavement, drainage facilities and engineering structures. Gained theoretical knowledge and practical skills can be used by students in their courses and degree projects.
