On March 23, the results of the annual Worldwide Professional University Rankings RankPro 2017/2018 (RankPro) were published. The ranking included 600 leading universities from 49 countries. North-Eastern Federal University took the 455th place, having risen by 61 points in the overall world ranking compared with last year, and also ranked 16th among the Russian universities.

According to NEFU Department for Strategic Development, the federal university for the fourth consecutive year is among the leading universities worldwide. The university took the 16 place in the Russian ranking, having risen by 7 points.

RankPro Ranking evaluates over 1,500 of the best universities in the world by such criteria as Academic Ranking, , Public Rating. In academic ranking, NEFU took 11th place among 34 Russian universities and the first place among five federal universities, overtaking Kazan, Siberian, Southern and Far Eastern federal universities. According to the information content of Internet resources (BC-Index ranking), NEFU took the 16th place among 32 Russian universities, according to the university's reputation among experts - 25th place among 27 Russian universities.

"Only 32 Russian universities could enter the overall ranking, including five of ten federal universities. California Institute of Technology, the Swiss Higher Technical School of Zurich and Yale University are in the top three. Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow State University and St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics are among the group of Russian universities in the top three", said Elena Afanasyeva, Director of Department for Strategic Development.

Among the 5 federal universities included in the ranking, Kazan Federal University (378th place in the world ranking) took the first place, then the Siberian Federal University (414th place). NEFU took the third place among federal universities, followed by Ural and Far Eastern federal universities (502 and 560 places respectively).
