NEFU Rector Evgenia Mikhailova told about the main directions of cooperation of North-Eastern Federal University with the universities of Korea at the Russian-Korean Rector’s Forum on November 9. The forum was held on the basis of campus of the natural sciences of Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, South Korea.

The report of the university head "Commonwealth of Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Korea and Russia - the basis for the development of good neighborliness between the two countries" included joint projects of NEFU with other universities and the main activities of NEFU. "The university, meeting modern challenges, is becoming not only a sustainable intellectual platform for its region. It is the basis for the transition of the regions of the whole Northeast of the country to a knowledge economy", the rector said. "The establishment of a higher education with a strong research base and teaching on the basis of advanced research leads to the introduction of knowledge, innovation and technology, which develops the society and the state".

Evgenia Mikhailova noted six main blocks of cooperation with colleagues from Korean universities. These are joint research, promotion of Russian, Korean languages ​​and culture, academic mobility, summer international schools and advanced training. "NEFU implements projects with Korea's scientific institutes in such areas as molecular and genetic technologies, obtaining frost-resistant lubricants, IT and study of inherited diseases", Evgenia Mikhailova said in her speech.

Joint educational programs with foreign universities are an important area for supporting academic mobility of students. "Training of specialists capable of mastering new markets, producing new products, applying the latest technologies is our main goal", said the rector. - The development of creative clusters, business support centers, creative industries - this is what we should strive for. That’s why our university is developing new Master's programs in convergent sciences, within the frameworks of which there will be interaction between the humanities, social and natural sciences, and students will be trained online with the involvement of professors from leading universities".

In her speech, the rector announced the start of a special competition of North-Eastern Federal University and the Institute of Russian Studies of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. The project "Arctic Yakutia and Russian Far East as partner regions of the Republic of Korea" will be held since December 1, 2017 among students and citizens of the Republic of Korea in order to support talented youth and promote cooperation between countries. Let us remember, the forum of rectors as an expert platform of Russia and Korea, uniting the specialists of the education system, is held for the fifth time. Such topical problems of universities as the development of mutually beneficial cooperation, the change of educational programs taking into account new economic challenges, the prospects for development of cooperation between academic community and business representatives are discussed at the forum.
