NEFU among top 15 Russian universities in Times Higher Education Ranking

The results of 2022 THE University Impact Rankings, which evaluates the impact of universities to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), have been published today. North-Eastern Federal University entered the ranking, placing 8-15th in Russia and 401-600th worldwide in several categories.

Director of NEFU Department of Strategic Development Tatiana Volkova explained that in order to enter THE University Impact Rankings, a university must contribute to at least four SDGs, including SDG 17 - Partnership for the Goals, which is mandatory. The overall score in the ranking is calculated by combining the score for SDG 17 and the top three scores for the other Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, SDG 17 score is 22%, while every other three SDGs included in the university’s ranking are 26%.

“This year, NEFU has improved its presence in SDG 17 by placing 301–400th out of 1,438 institutions and 4–6th among Russian universities. One of the important conditions to achieve SDG 17 is partnership, including NEFU participation at the Northern Forum on Sustainable Development and the publication of the annual report on the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. NEFU also demonstrated the best results in the following SDGs: No Poverty, Quality Education and Gender Equality. For the first time, we have entered the SDG for Responsible Consumption and Production,” emphasized Tatiana Volkova.

The 2022 THE Impact Rankings includes 1,406 world universities. NEFU has achieved a quantum leap, because last year the university was ranked 18-47th among Russian universities, and 601-800th in the world. “THE Impact Ranking is an attempt to evaluate the progress of universities towards sustainable development goals: from ending poverty and promoting good health and well-being, to achieving gender equality and tackling climate change. It is a catalyst for action, a mechanism for the work that we are already doing, our principles and goals of NEFU Development Program,” said the director of NEFU DSD.
