100th anniversary of the Yakut ASSR formation was celebrated at NEFU
A flower-laying ceremony at the monument to Maksim Ammosov was held at North-Eastern Federal University. The politician, together with his associates, was one of the founders of the autonomous Yakutia, which became part of the RSFSR.
“Maksim Kirovich was 25 years old, as young as the youth gathered today. He had the courage to meet with Stalin and proved the necessity to establish the Yakut republic. The energy of the young should transform Yakutia into the best and most prosperous region,” said Andrey Tarasenko, Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
On April 27, 1922 the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee adopted a resolution on "The Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic" as a federal part of the RSFSR with the administrative center in Yakutsk. The region was the largest in Russia and the largest administrative unit in the world.
The flower-laying ceremony took place also at the monuments to Professor Georgy Basharin and Avksenty Mordinov, who made a significant contribution to the development of higher education in the republic. “Without exaggeration, today is a great day. We’ve been through a lot over the past 100 years. The people who stood at the origins of Yakutia’s formation have always said that the establishment of the autonomous republic is a step towards prosperity. The events of those days have been crucial for the peoples of Yakutia, and now, looking back, one can only admire their persistence, courage, fortitude,” emphasized Anatoly Nikolaev.
