NEFU researchers will take part in the development of new industries in Yakutia

Chairman of the Government of Yakutia Andrey Tarasenko visited the youth laboratories of North-Eastern Federal University. He got acquainted with the available equipment, the capabilities of the university young scientists and their research.

Today, about 1,200 people are engaged in research activities in the region: 542 of them are candidates of science, 166 are doctors of science. “We will involve young scientists in new projects and industries that appear in the republic. From large infrastructure projects, such as the Lena Bridge, to the design of hydraulic structures and the creation of frost-resistant materials. Thus, our personnel will be able to develop competencies, and we will get our local product,” said Andrey Tarasenko, Chairman of the Government of Yakutia.

“Within the framework of the project, we will get new fundamental knowledge on predicting the behavior of polymer nanocomposites based on such materials as PTFE, UHMWPE and frost-resistant elastomer materials under conditions of their operation as sealing elements in hydraulic, fuel and steering systems of equipment operating under harsh operating conditions. The level of expected results corresponds to the world level of research and exceeds it,” said Aleksandr Spiridonov, head of the “Polymer Composites for the North” laboratory.

The laboratory "Polymer Composites for the North" is developing composite materials for equipment with increased reliability of operation in the conditions of the Far North for their further implementation. At the end of last year, the laboratory staff received an act of introduction of sealing rings at the enterprise of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), a patent for the method of polymer composite production, published 8 articles in scientific journals of HAC, Scopus / WoS, participated at all-Russian and international conferences, as well as one representative of the laboratory defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Sciences.

During his visit to NEFU, Andrey Tarasenko also got acquainted with the work of the laboratories "Computational Technologies for Modeling of Multiphysical and Multiscale Cryolithozone Processes" and "Radiation Technologies". The areas of the laboratories are connected with the projects of the REC "North". All of them were created in 2021 according to the results of the federal selection of the national project "Science and Universities" and received subsidies from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science to equip and conduct research.
