NEFU has developed a virtual tour of Sayynny Aartyk

On the Day of Statehood of the Republic of Sakha, the Museum of Writing of North-Eastern Federal University together with the REC "Altaistics" presented a virtual tour of the Sayynny Aartyk area. Tour participants will be able to get acquainted with the monument of rock art "Petrovskoe".

The virtual tour was developed by Ion Dmitriev. “Modern technology helps to better understand the past. Now, using virtual reality, anyone can look at the rock paintings without leaving home, that keep evidence of the life of ancient tribes and peoples for thousands of years,” said Yana Struchkova, specialist of NEFU Museum of Writing.

The monument includes "the northernmost runic inscription", which was discovered and studied by Aleksey Okladnikov in the middle of 20th century. Researchers pay attention: the rock paintings are in disrepair. There is a rock fall and destruction of rock surface from time to time. With the help of modern technologies, it has become possible to preserve the unique cultural heritage of all mankind in the form of rock art for future generations.

In addition to the virtual tour, a full interactive 3D model of the monument “Petrovskoe” is being created together with the Center for 3D Modeling and Virtual Reality of NEFU Institute of Physics and Technology. The work is planned to be completed in the first half of November. There are no similar 3D models of the monument “Petrovskoe” nationwide and worldwide, according to NEFU Museum of Writing.
