Invention of NEFU researchers received a patent of the Russian Federation

The patented development of scientists from Mirny Polytechnic Institute of North-Eastern Federal University "Method of Pre-processing of Diamond-bearing Placers" refers to the mining of mineral resources. The invention can be used at enterprises of non-metallic materials.

Galina Dvoichenkova, one of the authors of the project, Research Professor at NEFU MPTI, explained that the invention is used in the separation or sorting of ore materials by dry method, in particular, in mining alluvial diamond deposits. “It is intended for use at enterprises of non-metallic materials, that is, placers using the existing cyclic or cyclical and continuous technology,” the researcher said.

The invention will help to improve the efficiency of mining diamond-bearing placers, as operating costs are reduced while processing diamond-yielding sands and recovering diamonds. According to Galina Dvoichenkova, the technical effect obtained by solving the task is expressed in a reduction of the volume of sands that are sent to the plant for beneficiation. As a result, transportation costs are reduced.

The research professor added: “The use of the claimed method for pre-processing of diamond-bearing placers helps to reduce environmental pollution. Costs of diamond recovery will also decrease due to the use of dry method of separation by grain-size classes.”
