NEFU disinfection robot is tested at schools

An upgraded model of a disinfection robot, created by engineers of North-Eastern Federal University, is being tested at the Sakha-Polytechnic Lyceum in Yakutsk. The updated robots have become three times lighter the previous models and can disinfect near people.

Nikolay Potapov, a resident of NEFU Arctic Innovation Center, noted that two robots will have been working at the lyceum a month. “They can cover an area of up to 2000 square meters. The robots are centered - you cannot accidentally drop them. Today they are launched at the lyceum,” said the developer.

“The productivity of a robot, compared to a stationary recirculator, is substantiated by constant movement along a given route. In this regard, two relatively small recirculators allow disinfecting a large area, - said chief programmer Fedot Shadrin. - Optimization of power consumption of all units of the robot, as well as minimization of its weight, made it possible to ensure non-stop operation for four to five hours. In the future, we plan to ensure the work of the robot for six or more hours."

Production head Ivan Filippov drew attention to the fact that the robots weigh 42 kg instead of the previous 130 kg. “The size of the robot has been reduced due to a new frame designed specifically for Vedroid disinfection robot “Photon”. By reducing the size, as well as the composite body, we have achieved a significant reduction in weight and size. Perhaps, in the future, we will further reduce the weight by 10 kg, using a lithium polymer battery. At the moment, we are using gel batteries,” he noted.

Let us remember that the disinfection robot is based on VeDroid autonomous floor-washing machine for wet cleaning. Earlier, the disinfection vedroid was tested in the reception hall on the first floor of the polyclinic in Yakutsk after a shift of employees. Nikolay Potapov plans to equip schools and public places: cafes, theaters, shops.
