Valery Falkov: “The transition to online radically accelerated education mediation”

Distance learning format requires the development of new competencies. This was stated by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov in his greeting to the participants of the Moscow International Salon of Education-2020, according to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

According to Valery Falkov, the spring of 2020 will be remembered as the time of the digital shift in education. “We will remember this spring not only as a period of stress, when we all solved and solve problems caused by coronavirus in real time. After the coronavirus, we will definitely return to the lecture halls, but a lot of things will look different. The forced transition to online has radically accelerated the mediation of higher education,” said the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. ⠀

The minister pointed out that the distance format requires, in addition to tool skills, the development of new core competencies - the ability to build the drama of each seminar, each lecture, and the whole course. Teachers turn into directors and producers of their courses, learn to work with web series, analyze metrics and assess involvement, produce educational projects, build storytelling, introduce elements of gamification and use immersive technologies, he explains.

It has not yet been able to make digital technologies an organic part of the educational process in a month of remote work, Valery Falkov added: “However, further digitalization is necessary for Russian education to be exported and be in demand worldwide, like the best media product.”, said the minister.
