Panteleimon Egorov: “Russia’s great breakthrough in inclusive education in three years”

Panteleimon Egorov, Director of the North-Eastern Scientific and Innovation Center for the Development of Inclusive Education, told about the support of students with special educational needs in Russia and Germany in the new video of the cycle "Our University_Lectures".

Panteleimon Egorov has been cooperating with German educational organizations for thirty years. “Germany is one of the developed countries in Europe where social policy is at a high level: Germany cares for its people with health problems. An inclusive form of education has been introduced into German education since 1970, so they have more advanced technologies, teaching methods, conditions and equipment. For example, there are digital video magnifiers that allow you to see the board from any distance,” said the director.

In Russia, an inclusive form of education was introduced in 2017. “Over these three years, we have made a great breakthrough: we have created resource training centers in all federal districts. According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education, each university creates special educational conditions for students with special educational needs - this is right, because any student has the right to study at the university where he is comfortable at the place of residence. The government conducts extensive monitoring annually. Our university successfully passes it,” Panteleimon Egorov shared.

Many activities have been implemented at NEFU to support students with SEN, the director pointed out. “We have developed a methodology through which a blind schoolchild or student can work on a computer independently. There are 29 students with visual impairments at NEFU, of which two visually impaired people got high grades thanks to this methodology. Such support provided to our students with SEN, I have only seen in two universities in Germany,” he concluded.
