NEFU and the University of Lapland will launch joint exchange programs

North-Eastern Federal and Lapland Universities (Finland) will cooperate in improving the quality of student education and teacher qualifications, including research development. The agreement was signed at the Northern Sustainable Development Forum in Yakutsk on September 24.

In particular, cooperation will be implemented as part of student, teacher exchange programs, as well as joint research activities and special academic programs, as indicated in the agreement document.

According to Mauri Ylä-Kotola, President of the University of Lapland, it is important for modern professionals to have a new philosophy of sustainable development. “To create a “picture”, the world needs new approaches and ways,” he said. “Today everything - education, science - is based on one paradigm, however, for example, the sustainable development of the University of the Arctic and NEFU has different types of paradigms development.”

“Human thinking works only through one paradigm. However, we must understand that everything around, including sustainable development, met with a cliche. We need new approaches to sustainable development. I think the signed agreement will lead to something new and fresh,” concluded Mauri Ylä-Kotola.
