NEFU opened a representative office in China

North-Eastern Federal University opened a representative office in China on the basis of Harbin Institute of Technology. The official opening ceremony of NEFU Representative Office was held on July 8 in Harbin.

Rector of the university Anatoly Nikolaev and director of the Institute of the East Nyurgun Maksimov took part in the ceremony from NEFU. The Chinese side was represented by Ding Xuemei, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Harbin Institute of Technology, management of the Environment Institute, the permanent directorate of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities, and representatives of the Department of International Cooperation.

According to NEFU rector Anatoly Nikolaev, the opening of the representative office was the result of close cooperation between Yakut and Chinese universities for more than seven years. “The main proclaimed goals of our university’s representative office at Harbin Institute of Technology are to coordinate and implement joint NEFU educational and research projects with partner universities in China, organize and conduct joint Russian-Chinese events, and disseminate information about NEFU educational programs and the admission procedure among potential applicants from the People's Republic of China," said the head of the university.

He added that previously the federal and Chinese universities initiated the holding of the First Forum of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities on Arctic research in Yakutsk. “Also, according to our joint idea with the HIT, an International Joint Research Center for the Arctic Environment and Ecosystem was established in Harbin,” said the rector.

Anatoly Nikolaev noted that NEFU actively participates in the work of the Polar Institute and the Training Center of the University of the Arctic, as well as the Specialized Committee on the Arctic Environment and Ecosystem of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, established at the Harbin Institute of Technology. “We have planned the launch of the first joint master's program on Arctic ecosystems for the 2020-2021 academic year,” he said.
