A Regional Center for Russian-Chinese cooperation in science, education, and culture has been established at NEFU

The ceremonial opening of the Regional Center for Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of science, education and culture took place on the basis of North-Eastern Federal University. According to NEFU Institute of the East, the center was established on the initiative of the university management with the support of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Khabarovsk, and is intended to become a platform for multilateral cooperation of Yakutia with the People’s Republic of China in the arts and humanities.

Before signing the agreement, NEFU Interim Rector Evgenia Mikhailova announced that the university carries out scientific and educational cooperation with more than 20 leading universities and research centers in China, more than 100 students from China are now studying at NEFU and dozens of students of the federal university annually go to China for exchange programs. “I think everyone is familiar with the culture of China since childhood. We, in turn, as a basic university of our region, should contribute to the development of partnerships in education and science. Currently, a lot has been done and I think there is still more to be done. I hope our international friendship will be even more fruitful and promising,” said the head.

NEFU Rector Anatoly Nikolayev noticed the importance of establishing a center for the strategic development of Yakutia. “It’s nice to participate in this ceremony. Much work has been done to establish partnership with Chinese universities and academic institutions. We have defined development paths and will continue to work in this direction. We know that the people of China are goal-oriented, disciplined and hardworking people, and we still got a lot to learn. I believe that we can do a lot together. The location of our university obliges us to engage in the study of the Northern Sea Route. Together, we have established all suitable conditions for the development of this direction,” he said.

According to the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Khabarovsk, Cui Guojie, the signing of the agreement is of historical importance. “Today is an important, memorable day that should be recorded in history. The opening of the center on the territory of NEFU represents the establishment of a special base for business development, cooperation in science. It is the foundation for the development of friendship between Russia and China,” the representative explained.

The Consul noted the important role of the Yakut University in the development and popularization of the Chinese language in Russia. “I’m sure that more and more students will learn Chinese and become acquainted with Chinese culture. They will become the bridge that will contribute to the development of international relations. As representatives of the Consulate General, we will support the initiative of the university. This is an evidence that bilateral cooperation has entered a new level. We are impressed by how the republic is developing. We see obvious progress in the field of new technologies. I am sure that due to the support of the leadership of the country and the republic, we will enter a new stage of development,” Cui Guojie added.
