NEFU MI students took the II place in the VII All-Russian Epidemiology Olympiad

A team of students at the Medical Institute of North-Eastern Federal University became second-degree award winners of the VII All-Russian Epidemiology Olympiad. The event was held at First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov.

According to MI Associate Professor Aida Fedorova, 18 teams from 16 cities of Russia participated in the competition. “The team of our institute included 6th year students of the department “Medical and Preventative Care” Anna Borisova, Nadezhda Vasilieva, Varvara Okoneshnikova, Maria Petrova, Tatiana Potapova. They competed in several stages: in the theoretical and two practical,” said Aida Fedorova.

In the first round, the Olympiad participants answered questions on the theoretical and methodological foundations of epidemiology, including historical aspects, in the second round, they performed tasks aimed at knowing the modern methodology of epidemiology. In the third - worked on the theoretical foundations of epidemiology.

“This Olympiad has given us tremendous experience. We prepared for it individually, the guys from other cities also prepared very well. The jury included the best specialists, - said student Anna Borisova. - The topic of the Olympiad “Especially dangerous infections and sanitary protection of the Russian Federation territory” was very relevant and alarming. But despite its complexity, the teams showed a high level of knowledge, the difference in points was minimal, the struggle was very close.”

The students of the Medical Institute express their gratitude to the Student’s Social Protection Fund for providing the financial assistance. “We want to thank Samoilova Izabella Yurievna, Deputy Head of the Rospotrebnadzor, for their help in training, Fedorova Aida Ivanovna, who is responsible for the Olympiads at the Medical Institute, and Savvina Nadezhda Valerievna, Head of the Department of Public Health, Healthcare, General Hygiene and Bioethics,” concluded Anna Borisova.

The purpose of the Olympiad is to identify and develop students' creativity and interest in practical and research activities in the field of epidemiology, analyze the level of training of students of Russian medical universities in the field of epidemiology of especially dangerous infections and sanitary protection of the territory, create the necessary conditions to support talented youth.
