NEFU strengthened its position in Webometrics ranking

North-Eastern Federal University strengthened its position among Russian universities, taking the 28th place nationwide for the second time in a row and the 5th among federal universities. These are the results of the world ranking of Webometrics as of January 2019.

The reason for the stabilization of NEFU positions in the ranking is consistency in the position of the Excellence criterion at the level reached in August 2018, when the university entered the Scimago ranking for the first time, formed according to Scopus data for the last year.

“It is well known that MSU Rector Sadovnichy said that rankings are a mirror reflecting the activities of a particular university. This is not a competition between universities, but a tool to look at yourself, to evaluate your activity in comparison with other institutions of higher education, to reveal your weaknesses and strengths, directions for further growth, someone you can look up to and with whom you should cooperate”, noted the Deputy Director of NEFU Strategic Development Department Maksim Ivanov.

According to NEFU Strategic Development Department, Webometrics is the most comprehensive network ranking of universities in terms of university coverage. Webometrics analyzes the representation of the university in the Internet space and allows to evaluate the research achievements of universities through the comparison of Internet sites.

Let us remember, the ranking methodology is based on four indicators: the number of links from external resources, the number of web pages indexed by Google, the citation of scientific publications based on analytical information from the Scimago research group, and an indicator using information from university profiles in Google Scholar Citations.

Webometrics ranking is prepared by the Spanish Cybermetrics Lab. Since 2004, the rankings are published twice a year - at the end of January and at the end of July. It evaluates the presence of 25,000 universities worldwide in the global Internet space.
