Model Northern Forum is held at NEFU

Experts and students of North-Eastern Federal University exchange knowledge, ideas and experience with the youth of the northern regions of Russia and other countries within the framework of modeling the activities of the Northern Forum. MNF 2021 participants discuss the climate challenges of our time in the Arctic and northern regions.

Dariana Maksimova, Deputy Executive Director of the Northern Forum, told the MNF participants about the possibilities of the Northern Forum project activities. “Our task is to involve the youth in the sustainable development of the North and the Arctic. The Model Northern Forum is a good continuation of our great movement. The MNF can unite guys not only today, but also for further work. We expect that the participants will consider different opportunities for sustainable development of the North and the Arctic. The main thing is to go beyond the discussion and continue to implement their projects,” commented the acting head of the Department of International Relations at NEFU IFPRS.

It is important to have a student body to conduct scientific communication and create projects in the field of climate change, according to Nikita Tananaev from the Research Laboratory for Climate and Ecosystem Studies in the Northern Regions at NEFU INS. “This is possible with the support of NEFU and the Northern Forum. Students meteorologists, climatologists can talk about how the climate is changing and what it will look like in 100 years. The task of economists and managers will be to develop and implement measures to adapt and reduce climate risks,” he said.

Students, schoolchildren, young researchers and experts from four countries and six Russian regions participate in the Model Northern Forum. Tuyaara Petrova, master’s student of the Law Faculty at NEFU, participates in the MNF for the first time. “I am a resident of the northern region and engaged in the issues of its development. I would like to hear new ideas and projects proposed by the MNF participants on this issue. I hope it will be very interesting and informative,” she said.

On December 2, the work of the MNF continues - the participants discuss within the framework of the modeling of the three bodies of the Northern Forum: The Board of Governors, The Regional Coordinators Committee, Regional Adaptation to Climate Change Working Group.
