NEFU students became winners and prize-winners of the International Latin Olympiad

Nine students at the Medical Institute of North-Eastern Federal University won the first degree diplomas at the XV International Internet Olympiad in Latin and Basics of Medical Terminology. Dentistry students received the largest number of awards.

Freshman Darkhan Vasiliev shared that he had not participated in university Olympiads before. “I graduated from the Medical College, where I studied as a dental technician. During my studies, I participated in the WorldSkills Championship: I took first place in the region and went to Moscow,” said first degree diploma winner Darkhan Vasiliev. “When the Internet Olympiad was announced, I immediately decided to participate. I was preparing for the tasks according to the student's independent work, I always studied what was given in the SIW. I advise future participants to pay special attention to the basics - it is impossible to achieve high results without it."

“Latin medical language is the basis of medical terminology, and every self-respecting future health worker should know it and be able to operate with it. Our Latin language discipline ended in December, I passed the exam with honours,” said Sardaana Spiridonova, the winner, a graduate of the Nyurba Technical Lyceum. “We were given a week for the Olympiad, so there was no excitement. The tasks were mainly on the knowledge of anatomical and pharmacological terms: everything was fine with the first ones, we studied them not only in Latin, but also in Anatomy. And the second ones were more difficult, because the course of Pharmacology has not started yet, but I did it."

Representatives of 31 universities and 2 colleges from Russia and foreign countries competed in the Olympiad. The tasks were in the field of anatomical, clinical and pharmaceutical terminology, the creative task was devoted to Latin aphorisms.
