NEFU held a seminar on countering extremism among young people

Speakers of the meeting presented information on the topic “Extremism in society as a socially destructive phenomenon”, “Countering the spread of terrorist and extremist ideology on the Internet” and many other topics. More than three hundred students from North-Eastern Federal University attended the online seminar.

Such awareness-raising activities are held in order to prevent the formation of the youth consciousness focused on committing illegal actions. “Students were told how to resist socially destructive phenomena - extremism and terrorism, about the rules of behavior under the threat of terrorism. The event contributes to the creation of a positive environment among young people at the university, based on tolerance, culture of peace, patriotism and civic responsibility,” said Sofron Novgorodov, head of the Student Development Department.

“All students of our university are different and they have their own goals in life. At NEFU, we organize all the necessary conditions for the full development of each of them. Upon graduation, young people will use all the knowledge and skills gained to live their lives with dignity. And for this purpose you need to know the rules that should be followed. Such events help students think maturely and make deliberate decisions,” said Sargylana Nestereva, Deputy Vice Rector for Extracurricular Work and Youth Policy at NEFU.

“I think that a lot of students were able to learn something new and useful from the speakers. Such events bring a certain positive result: the legal culture is being improved, tolerant attitude to others, other peoples, traditions, and customs is being instilled. I think that the organization and holding of such events, aimed at preventing extremism and terrorism among young people and society in general, are important,” said Luiza Protopopova, a third-year student of the Institute of Psychology.
