NEFU to launch the educational program "Artificial Intelligence" by Samsung

North-Eastern Federal University is among the winners of the competition for the implementation of Samsung's educational program in the field of artificial intelligence. Students of relevant institutes will begin to study the program from the next academic year.

According to Vice Rector for Digital Development Petr Ivanov, the educational process will be organized in a specially equipped branded computer class. “As part of the curriculum, university teachers will be trained at Samsung Research Center and Artificial Intelligence Center in Moscow. A key feature of the AI ​​course is a quick practical immersion and career guidance in the high-demand fields of ​​machine learning, which is characterized by a high entry threshold, a wide variety of applied problems and mathematical tools,” said the Vice Rector.

Training under the program is recommended for students of the third or fourth year of undergraduate and graduate courses. Duration of study: one academic year, the first semester will be devoted to solving basic problems in the fields of computer vision and Big Data, and the second semester will be devoted to the development of individual projects of students. Upon completion of the training, all students, who have successfully completed the program, will receive Samsung Electronics certificates. An annual competition of the best graduation projects is held among graduates.

According to Sergey Pevnev, Director of Corporate Projects and Government Relations Department of Samsung Electronics, optimizing and developing new educational programs as part of Samsung IT Academy project, the company is opening promising areas of technology for more students. “Samsung IT Academy project will help to prepare top-ranked IT specialists necessary for the development of the Russian digital economy in the areas of AI, mobile development and the Internet of things,” noted the director.

Let us remember that since September 2018, an educational project “Samsung IoT Academy” has been implemented at NEFU. Students of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Institute of Physics and Technology undergo training in the field of the industrial Internet of things. As part of a new educational project, Samsung provided equipment for organizing an IoT training laboratory. Teachers and students use rapid prototyping kits, Samsung ARTIK microcomputers.

In addition, SAMSUNG IT school has been operating on the basis of SSTC - NEFU University Lyceum from the 2019-2020 academic years, where the 10th graders of the "Mathematics and IT" profile are trained under the "Mobile Development" program. “Studying at SAMSUNG school is a good opportunity to learn the basics of Java programming. Thanks to school I get the necessary academic knowledge. Our teacher is a strong mentor. Most of all, I like to learn new competencies in studies and create projects,” said lyceum student Viktor Makhatyrov.

Since 2017, Samsung IT Academy has been teaching students a one-year course on the Internet of Things (formerly known as “IoT Samsung Academy”).
