The Department of Oncology has opened at NEFU Medical Institute
The Department of Oncology has opened at the Medical Institute of North-Eastern Federal University on the basis of the Yakut Republican Oncology Center. The order of the university rector Anatoly Nikolaev came into effect on 1 November.
NEFU and the Yakut Republican Oncology Center of Yakutia will combine material, intellectual and innovative potential. The department will be headed by professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, honored doctor of the republic, honorary worker of higher education, the State Prize winner of Yakutia Petr Ivanov. Professors and teachers from oncologists of the center and a visiting doctor of medical sciences, professors from the leading oncology institute of Russia will teach students in “Oncology” field.
According to the head of the Department of Propaedeutic and Faculty Therapy with Endocrinology and Physical Therapy, Lyubov Sydykova, the opening of a new department will closely connect science and practice, and will improve the quality of training of qualified personnel for the oncological service. The results of joint scientific research are planned to be introduced into clinical oncology. The new unit has received the status for training specialists in residency and postgraduate programs in the specialty "Oncology", added Lyubov Burnasheva, the methodologist of the center.
NEFU Medical Institute, as part of the National Strategy against cancer, provides training for the oncological service of Yakutia. “In 2016, the institute received a license for training highly qualified personnel in residency in the specialty “Oncology”. Currently, 13 people are studying at the medical institute. In 2020, six state-funded places will be allocated for oncology residency applicants,” commented Lyubov Sydykova.
