Northern Sustainable Development Forum has started in Yakutsk

On September 23, a press conference of the organizers of the Northern Sustainable Development Forum was held in the capital of the republic. It was attended by Deputy Rector for Analytical Activities of North-Eastern Federal University Aleksandr Kugaevsky and Vice Rector for NEFU International Cooperation Vladlen Kugunurov.

Aleksandr Kugaevsky said that the task of the Northern Forum is to build a large platform on which different platforms will work: “We provide conditions for international communication. According to this formula, we will hold activities on a regular basis. The idea of any conference is to attract minds. Scientific practitioners come to talk about their achievements and interesting projects.”

This year, one of the venues is dedicated to the 5th All-Russian Conference “Sustainable North: Society, Economics, Ecology and Politics”, the deputy rector noted. “These are four components, each of which depends on each other. The range of sustainable development issues is very wide, from global warming to the introduction of digital technologies in our lives. As a result, we must develop road map and focus in the right direction,” commented Aleksandr Kugaevsky.

Vladlen Kugunurov acquainted the meeting participants with information on cooperation with the University of the Arctic and a panel discussion on networking: “The University of the Arctic has about 50 thematic networks in different directions. For example, the “Permafrost” network is working very successfully. Our colleagues will discuss prospects and problems, formats and mechanisms of cooperation within the framework of these thematic networks. At the end of this session, an agreement will be signed between NEFU, the University of the Arctic Project Development Office, the University of Lapland and Korean Maritime Institute.”

Let us remember that the Northern Sustainable Development Forum will be held from September 24 to 28 in Yakutsk. Representatives of 11 countries worldwide will take part in it. NSDF is a promising platform for discussing the problems of the Arctic and finding solutions for its integrated development. The program of the event can be found here.
