NEFU medical team took part in the Conference “Surgery-2019” in Spain

Professor of North-Eastern Federal University Mikhail Vinokurov and a student of the Dental Department Lyudmila Vinokurova took part in the conference on surgery "Surgery-2019" in Spain. They presented a joint work on the theme “Experience of using somatostatin analogues in bleeding from varicosity of patients with liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension syndrome in the multidisciplinary surgical center of RS(Y)”.

According to the professor, head of NEFU MI Department of Faculty Surgery, Urology, Oncology and Otolaryngology, Mikhail Vinokurov, the aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of new drugs in eliminating bleeding from varicosity of patients with liver cirrhosis. “The study is based on a retrospective analysis of the results of complex therapy of 57 patients with cirrhosis with portal hypertension syndrome, who are being treated at the Republican Hospital No. 2,” said the scientist.

The professor told about the experience of using synthetic analogues of the hormone in the complex treatment of acute varicose bleeding of the esophagus of patients with cirrhosis. “The introduction of complex intensive care with the use of synthetic analogues of somatostatin allowed to reduce the overall mortality rate, as well as reduce the risk of re-bleeding by 17%. We recommend this method to be put into practice,” said the surgeon.

Lyudmila Vinokurova, a student at NEFU Medical Institute, told about how the Conference “Surgery-2019” took place in Spain. “This is an incredible chance to show ourselves as a young scientist and it is a great honor to be a delegate of our university at the international conference held in Valencia, Spain. We attended lectures of visiting professors from the United States of America, Canada, Australia, Sweden and South Korea,” said the participant.

The student noted the high interest of the scientific community of the conference to the report. “Questions were asked about our work, and further interest in cooperation with our university was shown. The conference impressed in terms of enriching the knowledge in the field of surgery and the opportunity to communicate with foreign colleagues and professors who collaborate with leading clinics in the world. For me and every young scientist, this is an invaluable experience and an amazing chance to show yourself on the world stage. This event is a real celebration of medicine, where you can get and share your knowledge and skills, as well as witness new discoveries in surgery,” the young scientist said.

The International Conference on Surgery provides a platform for sharing and discussing revolutionary changes and advanced technologies in the field of surgery. The aim of the conference “Surgery-2019” is to bring together leading surgeons and academicians to exchange new information and ideas on improving surgical practice and discuss the technological complexity of the operation, requiring an objective assessment of surgical methods such as surgical robots, electrosurgical technologies, virtual reality planning, and telepresence surgery, smart needles. These adaptable concepts and quality indicators, supported by scientific progress, help to improve the quality of patient care, as well as learn about surgery and its features.
