INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION OF IMLIS 

(Institute of Modern Languages and International Studies)

Our institute cooperates on the basis of agreements with universities in China, Japan, Republic of Korea, France, Austria, Germany and international organizations and programs. Students and teachers have the opportunity to participate in mobility programs. Joint research and educational projects are implemented.   

Current joint international projects, centers

1. Project "Preservation of Linguistic and Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development of the Arctic and Subarctic of the Russian Federation" under the Mega-grant of the Government of the Russian Federation won jointly with the University of Chicago (USA). Contractor: NEFU Deputy Head of the Laboratory is L.S. Zamorshchikova, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of French.  

2. University of the Arctic Thematic Network "Images of World in the Languages of Indigenous Peoples of the North", head of the network - L.S. Zamorshchikova, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of French.

3. Project №856543 "Cosmological knowledge of climate change among reindeer herders and natural scientists in China and Russia" with the University of Manchester (UK). Implementation timeline 2020-2026. Contractor: A.A. Nakhodkina, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Interpretation and Translation 

4. The Northern Sustainable Development Forum is an annual international event held by the Governments of Russia and Yakutia, the Northern Forum international organization, foreign partner universities, and other international organizations. One of the main organizers from NEFU is the Department of International Studies of IMLIS, Acting Head of the Department, D.D. Maximova, PhD in Political Science. 

5. Arctic summer school for international students is an annual educational event held jointly with the Northern Forum and the University of the Arctic, IMLIS Department of International Studies, Acting Head of the Department, D. D. Maximov, PhD in Political Science.

6. King Sejong Institute (Republic of Korea) in Yakutsk, at IMLIS NEFU - educational courses and activities to promote Korean language and culture. Director - Professor at the Department of Oriental Languages Ahn Sang-chul, PhD. 

7. French Resource Center with the support of the Embassy of France, Director, Associate Professor of French Department, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, I.Z. Borisova.  

8. "East Siberian French Archaeological Missions" - study of coevolution of human and environment in the Arctic zone of Yakutia with Paul Sabotier University (France). IMLIS organizer - Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Department of French Melnichuk O.A.  

9. International Association of Teachers of English TESOL. Contractor: Department of Foreign Languages for Technical and Natural Sciences, Head of the Department, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Z.V. Emelyanova.

1. Elizabeth Mary Poarch, assistant professor in the Department of English and International Studies

Scientific interests: Foreign languages, intercultural communication, linguoculturology.  

Work experience: 7 years 


 2. Hongwei Qi, Assistant of the Department of English and International Studies

Disciplines: teaching students Chinese writing, grammar, phonetics and etiquette in Chinese.  

Scientific interests: Study of congratulations in Chinese and Russian discourse, Comparative analysis of the function of synonyms of Russian and Chinese in the media (news), Research methods of teaching Chinese writing to Russian-speaking students. 

Work experience: 3,5 years


3. Ahn Sang-chul, PhD, Professor, Department of Oriental languages

Disciplines: History of the country and formation of the primary language, Practicum on Basic Language, Practicum on Business Documentation; Language Support for Information and Communication (Japanese, Chinese, Korean): Modern Issues of Asia Pacific Languages, Practicum on Oriental Languages, Linguistics. Languages and Linguistics (in English): Phonetics, Phonology, Historical Linguistics.  

Scientific interests: linguistics 

Work experience: 34 years of work experience in the specialty, 10 years of work experience at NEFU.


4. Hoshijima Yotaro, assistant professor of Japanese, Department of Oriental languages

Scientific interests: Japanese language teaching

5. Arold Bernard Jean Moger, Senior Lecturer in the Department of French

Work experience: 09.2020 - present: French teacher, International Arctic School (Yakutia, Russia), Hamagatta Sakha-French Lyceum (Yakutia, Russia)


6. Mousalimas Sotiras Andrew, PhD, professor in the Department of Interpretation and Translation, professor emeritus at NEFU 

                                                                     

Education:  

• Bachelor's degree (1976), Hellenic College Holy Cross, USA  

• 1980 Master's Degree, Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, USA 

• Master's degree in Anthropology (1985), Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Oxford, UK 

• PhD in Theology, University of Oxford (1992)  

Disciplines: courses in academic English and the practice of academic writing for foreign journals peer-reviewed in foreign scientific citation databases for undergraduates of IMLIS and students of the NEFU International School. 

 He has been working at the Department of Interpretation and Translation at NEFU since 2015 as a visiting professor from Oxford University.


7. Donna Maria Fenton, assistant professor of the Department of Interpretation and Translation

Disciplines: Teaching Different Aspects of English (Writing, Speaking) 

Scientific interests: Sociolinguistics, Mesoamerican languages, language database development.  

Work experience: 10 years


8. Hongdan Zhang, Assistant Department of Foreign languages for Technical and Natural sciences

Education:   

• Bachelor's degree (2012-2016), Harbin University of Commerce    

• Master's degree (2016-2018), NEFU  

• Graduate student (2018), NEFU   

Scientific interests: intercultural communication, cognitive linguistics. 

Work experience: since 2020.

ACADEMIC MOBILITY

IMLIS students participate in mobility programs individually as well as on the basis of cooperation agreements with foreign universities. Every year more than 70 students of IMLIS go to partner universities for semester, year and short-term educational internships, participate in grant programs, for example, North2North Arctic University, NEFU Academic Mobility grant, short-term internships, international conferences, Olympiads, contests.  

Other annual competitions to support mobility: scholarships of the President of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, scholarship programs of the Governments of China, the Republic of Korea and Japan, the Embassy of France, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Erasmus + program etc. 

EUROPEAN DIPLOMA SUPPLEMENT

The Institute of Modern Languages and International Studies offers the European Diploma Supplement to graduates of all fields of study.  

The European Diploma Supplement is an official document developed by the European Commission, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO/CEPES to help countries mutually recognize higher education documents. 

It is needed if you want to have an advantage when applying for grants, scholarships for studies in foreign universities, and when taking part in competitions for vacancies in international companies.
