NEFU Scientific Research Institute of Mathematics was founded in 1993 (as YSU Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science) on the basis of YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Department of Applied Mathematics of YSC Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences. It is the first university research institution in the Sakha Republic. 

The purpose of the Institute is to promote research in the field of fundamental and applied mathematics, information technology, integration of research and training process, training of a highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff.

Main research areas:

- Differential equations,geometry, discrete mathematics and mathematical cybernetics.

- Development and implementation of mathematical models of natural, technological and socio-economic processes in the Arctic and the North.
