Training Practice in Hydrology
The hydrology practice takes place after the 1st year of a bachelor’s degree in summer on the Lena, the greatest river of Siberia. This practice encompasses a wide spectrum of hydrological activities, relevant for the first-year geography students. In the field, the students familiarize themselves with authentic procedures and equipment of their relevant professions and gain basic skills of scientific observation and monitoring.
Training Practice in Meteorology
The meteorology practice takes place after the 1st year of a bachelor’s degree in summer at the real meteorological site of the university. This practice ensures the development of the necessary skills in meteorology for the first-year geography students. During this practice, the students conduct authentic observations and research on modern meteorological devices, which allows them to get an insight on weather, climate, ecology and sustainability issues of Yakutia, one of the harshest and wildest regions of the world.
Primary Professional Skills Practice
The interzonal field practice, being a link between studying theoretical knowledge and developing practical skills, is one the most important in the education of highly qualified geographers and takes place after the 2nd year of a bachelor’s degree. The practice is held outside Yakutia and, therefore, introduces to the students the nature and economy of the other Russian Far East regions. The place of practice is determined with the consideration of several factors and varies from year to year to ensure the relevance to certain research. During this practice, the students consolidate their geographical skills by engaging in various relevant activities.
Research and Manufacturing Internship
In the 3rd year of a bachelor’s degree, the students undertake an internship in the environment of their future jobs, which is imperative in the education of highly qualified specialists. The internship is held at external organizations in relevant fields of work. Due to the uniqueness of every field of work, the internship experience may vary greatly. However, despite its diverse nature, the goal of every internship is the same – to develop the essential work skills of the students.
Research and Manufacturing Internship, Master’s Degree
This internship takes place in the 1st year of a master’s degree program. The goal of the internship is to help the students to research for their theses. Every thesis is unique, thus making this internship highly personalized for every student. However, being unique in spirit, the internships are consistent in the form to some extent: to organize their efforts, the students get a set of individual tasks from their respective supervisors and work toward completing them and writing their theses.
