On July 4, the VIII International Conference on Mathematical Modeling, with more than 50 guests from 10 countries, was opened at North-Eastern Federal University. The conference, conducted by NEFU Scientific Research Institute of Mathematics, expanded the range of work in 2017: new sectional areas were opened.

Representatives from Portugal, the Czech Republic, Italy, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, Belgium, the USA, Kazakhstan and various regions of Russia came to take part in the international conference. This year, the nonclassical problems section of the equations of mathematical physics, devoted to the 75th birthday of professor, physicist-mathematician Igor Petrushko, and Clifford, quaternion and harmonic analyzes and their applications section are working.

The conference was opened with a welcoming speech by Vice Rector for Innovative Development and Commercialization of Scientific Developments Afanasy Savvin. He noted that much attention is given to mathematical science and programming at NEFU. "It is gratifying that many of the participants are visiting NEFU not for the first time. This shows that strong international academic ties are being established, and scientific cooperation is developing. Allow me to congratulate you on the opening of the VIII conference and wish everyone fruitful work", the Vice Rector said.

The mathematical model is a mathematical representation of reality, and the adviser and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a well-known physicist and regular participant of the conference Germogen Krymsky said about the relevance of such conference. According to him, mathematical modeling has allowed to create a virtual world, which with the help of new technologies is gaining more and more vivid colors.

"Experimenters, who are used to conduct full-scale experiments, refuse this in favor of mathematical modeling, which shows its power in the modern world. The mathematical tools, used in this process, also progress rapidly and do not stand still, therefore, as an outside observer, I express my admiration for the success of your science, since the conference includes the topics of various sections, new ones and many other topical issues", noted the academician.

The conference is held once every three years in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of the SB RAS. Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tynysbek Kalmenov also came to participate in the work; the director of NEFU Scientific Research Institute of Mathematics, the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor Ivan Egorov is the moderator of the event.

Within the frameworks of the conference, round tables, discussions and lectures of experts and scientists are planned. "The conference is an excellent platform for establishing interdisciplinary contacts. It allows scientists from different areas to develop and share their experience, ideas, methods, results in modeling in different fields of science, and build bridges between theory and practice", said Nina Subbotina, head of Krasnovsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics.
