Students of Yakutia and Japan discussed environmental issues of Arctic at NEFU

The joint Winter School of NEFU and the Joint Research Laboratory of Hokkaido University within the frameworks of the training program in the field of sustainable ecology, culture and development in the regions of the Far East and the Arctic (RJE3) has completed its work at North-Eastern Federal University.

During the winter school, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students of NEFU and Hokkaido University (Hokkaido University) attended lectures of leading professors of Japan and Yakutia, who presented their studies on environmental issues.

Atsuko Sugimoto, RJE3 project leader, professor at the University of Hokkaido (Japan), leading researcher at the International Research and Education Center for Biogeochemistry and Climatology at NEFU Institute of Natural Sciences, notes that the main goal of the project is to inform students and involve them in the process of Russian -Japanese project. "It is important that young people were educated in everything related to scientific research of the environment, resources, history and culture, living conditions and regional development, the future policy and economy of Japan, the Far East and the Arctic", she said.

Miyamoto Yumiko, the project coordinator, employee of the Arctic Center of Hokkaido University, told about Joint Research Laboratory project, within the frameworks of which the establishment of the Arctic research laboratory is planned. "Winter school is the first step of our cooperation. Joint work should be productive for all parties", she said.

Let us remember that the signing of a tripartite agreement on the establishment of a laboratory between the University of Hokkaido, the Institute of Biological Problems of Cryolithozone of the SB RAS and North-Eastern Federal University took place in November 2016. "This summer, educational sessions are also planned. We intend to continue arctic research for the subsequent exchange of experience, knowledge, preparation of scientific articles", Miyamoto Yumiko said.
