NEFU students and professors participate in the UArctic Congress

From 12 to 16 September, the first UArctic Congress takes place in Saint Petersburg. North-Eastern Federal University participates in all the Forum events - the university researchers will present projects on Arctic ecosystems and communities, new markets for Arctic resources and others at the scientific conference.

"Congress has become a bridge for the establishment of partnerships between researchers from different parts of the Arctic, a factory of unique cooperation projects. It is symbolic that the history of Congress has begun in Russia", said Deputy Head of NEFU International Relations Office Nikolay Artemyev.

Federal University actively participates in the work of the University of the Arctic. "The leaders of the scientific session are Deputy Director of the Institute of Finances and Economics Oksana Romanova and Director of the Institute of Continuing Professional Education Olga Chorosova. Scientists of the university are the leaders and members of the thematic networks, working year-round", said the specialist.

Employees of the Arctic Department of NEFU International Relations Office and the University of the Arctic Lena Vinokourova and Svetlana Sleptsova reported on the work of the Russian Information Office on the basis of the Federal University. Students Svetlana Sleptsova and Ryo Yamanaka work in the sessions of the student forum.

At the scientific conference, researchers will discuss the problems of the Arctic development in five areas: the vulnerability and sustainability of the Arctic ecosystems and communities, local and traditional knowledge, sustainable human capacity-building, global system and its impact on the weather, commerce and ecosystems, new markets for the Arctic resources and related trade, tourism and transport. The congress is attended by about 500 people - rectors of universities, Russian and foreign scientists, young researchers and students.
