NEFU student Aytalina Petrova presented the report on Indigenous Peoples at the Summit in Japan

Aytalina Petrova, NEFU 4th year student of the Faculty of Law, presented her study on indigenous peoples at the Arctic Science Summit, which was held in Toyama (Japan) from April 23 to 30.

The summit included the business meetings, Symposium on the Arctic Research (ISAR-4) and the Conference on the Arctic Research Planning (ICARP III). Aytalina Petrova made the report on "Comparison of the Definition of Indigenous People in Russian and International Law" in the session "Arctic Governance, Sustainable Development of Local Communities and Non-Arctic State’s Contribution".

"The organization of the event was very high, as evidenced by the performance of Japanese Princess Takamado at the opening of the conference, she said. - Participation at the conference has given me not only the experience of speech, but also allowed to meet with the world's leading scientists in the field of Arctic research - Gail Fondahl, Lassi Heininen and many others. During the conference, I had the opportunity to communicate with them in informal circumstances, to know their views on contemporary issues of the Arctic. It was very important for my research and future career experience".

There were 27 sessions, 11 of which are interdisciplinary, within the conference.
