Center for Cells and DNA Research of Fossil Animals to open at NEFU

NEFU to open the International Common Use Center "Molecular Paleontology" in March, which will study cells and DNA of fossil and close to them modern animals in collaboration with leading Russian and foreign experts.

"By virtue of the agreement between NEFU and SFU on cooperation in mapping on the woolly mammoth genome, there was a workshop on "Sequencing problems of complex biological objects" on the basis of SFU Scientific and Educational Center for Genomic Research. Head of the center Natalia Oreshkova shared the first results of DNA analysis of Malolyakhovsky mammoth, which will be presented at the International scientific seminar on modern methods of fossil animal research this March in Yakutsk. Seminar, organized to report the first results of the study of the working group for the study of this unique discovery of our paleontologists, arranged to coincide with the opening of the International Common Use Center "Molecular Paleontology" at North-Eastern Federal University, Maksim Cheprasov the researcher of NEFU Mammoth Museum Laboratory said.

Research laboratory staff of "NEFU Mammoth Museum" Semen Grigoriev and Maksim Cheprasov took part in the popular scientific lectures of the scientists-popularizers of science at Siberian Federal University.

It was not the first visit of the Mammoth Museum staff to Siberian Federal University. In October of last year, Maksim Cheprasov participated in the IV All-Russian Festival of Science "Siberia - the Territory of Education" as a lecturer with scientific lectures "In Search of the Last Giant of the Arctic" and "Prospects for the Project “Revival of the mammoth" at the invitation of SFU Scientific and Educational Center of Young Scientists.
