NEFU took part in the International Conference of Asia-Pacific countries

North-Eastern Federal University implements new technologies in the field of educational and scientific research in cooperation with the leading Korean, Chinese and Japanese universities, research centers. Cooperation will be continued and expanded. NEFU rector Evgenia Mikhailova stated this at the VI East Asian Conference on Slavic-Eurasian Studies, which was held on June 27-28 in Seoul (Republic of Korea).

At the opening ceremony, Evgenia Mikhailova, the rector of North-Eastern Federal University, made a report on "Yakutia - the Territory of Friendship and International Cooperation".

"The Russian Federation decided on real integration into the world economic system, joining the APEC, WTO and other international communities. Russia has always been interested in cooperation with the countries of Asia-Pacific Region, our vital interests are in the field of national security and sustainable development of Siberia and the Far East. This is possible only through the development of economic integration, especially in the energy and transport sectors, organization of entering the markets of ART - the most dynamic region of the world," said Evgenia Mikhailova.

As noted by the NEFU rector, Russia's relations with the Republic of Korea are developing fruitfully, primarily due to the Korean-Russian Cultural Fund. The federal university together with Korea realizes a number of major research projects: study and cloning of mammoths and other fossil animals jointly with the Biotechnology Research Fund SOOAM, development of frost proof motor oil. Scientists of Graduate School of Natural Sciences and NEFU conduct research in the field of molecular biotechnology. NEFU students and graduates have the opportunity to get quality teaching Korean, supported by Hankuk University of Foreign Studies​. Schoolchildren of the republic and students participate in educational projects of Seoul Graduate School of Robotics.

Speaking of modern linguistic situation in Russia, NEFU rector surprised the audience by the fact that about 40 indigenous languages ​​have the official status. "For example, in Yakutia, besides two of the state, Russian and Yakut, ​ the Chukchi and Dolgan are the official languages too. The Russian Language gives us the opportunity to preserve and develop the Yakut Language and Sakha people concerned about the development of languages ​​of Small-Numbered Peoples", said Evgenia Mikhailova.

State and language policy in the Russian Federation aimed at supporting different languages ​​and cultures, regardless of the number of native speakers: "We want people to know their native language. However, we certainly do not intend that the young generation to study only mother tongue and use only it. We want young people to realize that it is equally important to know several languages ​​and still preserve the sovereignty of their language and their culture," said Evgenia Isaevna.

"I am proud that our country has a deep understanding of the need to preserve cultural heritage and linguistic diversity of the multinational people!", said the rector of the federal university.

Participants of the Conference of Slavic "Peace Building in East Asia and the Expansion of Eurasian Cooperation: Dynamics and Tasks" discussed the problems and prospects of cooperation between Asia-Pacific countries, the preservation of languages ​​and cultures in a globalized world, cooperation priorities.

Distinguished scientists for Slavic Studies, known politicians, leaders of the largest universities and institutions of the Republic of Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and the Russian Federation attended the conference.
